Type today's gold rate to start

Enter the 24 carat rate per gram your jeweller quotes. The page then works out the gold value, making charges, GST and the extra you pay over the metal.

How it works

You type today's 24 carat rate per gram from your jeweller. The page does not know or show any gold price. It adds up the pieces of a jeweller's bill: the value of the gold, the making charge, any wastage and stones, and GST, and shows how much more than the metal you pay.

Gold value = weight x 24K rate x (carat / 24). Total = gold + wastage + making + stones + GST

A worked example

With an invented round rate of ₹10,000 a gram (only to show the sums, not a price), 10 grams of 22 carat gold is worth ₹91,667. A 10% making charge adds ₹9,167, GST at 3% on the whole bill adds ₹3,025, and the total is ₹1,03,858: 13.3% more than the gold itself.

GST and duty, for information

  • Rates are read from a dated file, last checked 1 Nov 2026. GST on gold jewellery is 3%. Explainers say this applies to the whole bill, making charge included.
  • A job worker making jewellery out of gold supplied to them charges 5% on the making charge alone. Some explainers apply this rate to a making charge on a retail bill, which is why the page lets you try both. We could not open the official CBIC text, so treat this as unconfirmed and check your bill.
  • Import duty on gold is 15% from 13 May 2026 per news reports (basic duty 10% plus a 5% cess), unconfirmed against the notification. It is already inside the price your jeweller quotes and is not used in the calculation.
  • Gold jewellery sold in India must be BIS hallmarked, and the bill should show the hallmarking charge. This page adds that charge as you type it.

What it leaves out

  • The gold price. You supply it.
  • The value you would get on selling or exchanging the piece.
  • GST on hallmarking or other add-on charges.
  • Whether to buy gold.

Questions people ask

Where does the gold rate come from?

From you. Type the 24 carat rate per gram that your jeweller quotes today. This page has no gold prices, so it cannot be out of date on price, but it also cannot check yours.

What is GST on gold jewellery?

Explainers put it at 3% on the value of the jewellery. Whether the making charge carries the same 3% or a separate 5% on a retail bill is described differently by different sources, so the page lets you try both.

What are making charges?

The jeweller’s charge for crafting the piece. It is quoted as a percentage of the gold value or as a rupee amount per gram, and designs with more work usually cost more.

What does “extra over the gold” mean?

It is the total you pay less the value of the gold in the piece, shown in rupees and as a percentage of that gold value. It is a way to see what making charges, wastage, stones and tax add.

Does the import duty change my price?

The duty is part of what jewellers and refiners pay, so it is built into the rate they quote. The page lists it for information and does not add it to your total.
